Happenings – Cookies and Calico

Dorothy Ferguson’s first claim to fame was as the inventor of frozen cookie dough. Dorothy took her Dottie’s Quickie Cookies first available in one store in Greeley, Colorado and in a few months they were available in 30,000 stores nationwide.

Dorothy Ferguson was also the owner, operator of Calico Kate’s Pantry Shop in Glen Haven Colorado. Her shop was a vacation destination for special gifts, pantry items, the Calico Kate’s Christmas Room and mail order. She also had shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Frontierland in Disneyland, California.

Happenings – Cookies and Calico is her story of her successful shops, and overnight rise to a nationally known businesswoman and media celebrity. It is also a great love story.

A Mystery

Police Chief Saunders told students in Jimmy's class about several old cases. Jimmy was excited, this day he would have something interesting to tell Grandpa. At first they enjoyed their talk, but when Jimmy mentioned the third case, the fun stopped. He didn't know it, but he had opened the door to Grandpa's secret past.

Grandpa was shocked, but to be true to what he had preached to his grandson, Grandpa had to face the police and his past. After their talk with Chief Saunders, Grandpa wonders if people from the old case might be at work on something new. When dead bodies begin to show-up, the police are convinced. But there is a problem, there is nothing to go on except Grandpa's memories of the people and events of the past.
